Math, Physics, and Educational Studies
Mission Statement
In keeping with the mission of Gaston College, the Mathematics, Physics and Educational Studies Department provides and maintains a supportive intellectual environment that offers students mathematical and physical experiences appropriate to their individual needs and chosen programs of study. The department provides an in depth study of mathematics and physics in preparation for further study at four year institutions, supports the mathematical and physical needs of other academic disciplines, and maintains a program available to all students to enhance their ability to think mathematically and to reason quantitatively.
The Educational Studies component of this department provides instruction in both academic success classes and Early Childhood Education. Both areas focus on degree and transfer levels to prepare students for success in career/technical courses and in transferring to a university. Courses include information and strategies necessary to develop clear academic and professional goals beyond the community college experience.
