Audio and Video Production Technology/Sports Media Technology
A Comprehensive Learning Experience
Our hands-on learning emphasis puts you right to work with the latest cameras, software, lights, microphones, and other equipment you will be using in your new career. Other area programs specialize in one small part of this exciting field and offer only a niche certificate, but we offer training and real experience in every aspect of video and audio production.
Students are impressed with the quality of our facilities and love the fact that most of our equipment is available for check-out as you work on your creative projects. In addition to getting to know your instructor, you will work closely with other students and bond with them as a creative team. Advanced students are also paid to serve as tutors in certain classes—you’ll get even more help when you need it and will have the opportunity to serve as a mentor yourself later in the program.
Start Getting Your Work Out in the World
Gaston College’s Broadcasting and Production Technology program will give you multiple opportunities to produce media that gets shared on the air and online. You can see some past student projects through our YouTube channel and get a feel for the kinds of projects you’ll be working on.
Gaston Spotlight is our in-house television program that airs on Channel 21 in Gaston County. You will have opportunities to produce shows for broadcast. Check out our Gaston Spotlight channel for some of our past programs.
Is podcasting more your thing? You aren’t alone! This field is exploding, and many of our students want to start or join a successful podcast. Listen in to some of our recent episodes.
If you’re interested in sports broadcasting you’ll get ample opportunity to refine your skills as you cover various GC Rhinos athletic games. Watch some of the games covered by our sports broadcasting team in the on-demand section at gcrhinos.com/watch.
Many Exciting Careers
Our program will prepare you for many careers in a range of industries. The local job market is competitive, and most jobs are in television, sports, and news. There is also a growing demand for audio and visual expertise in different corporate sectors. Multimedia opportunities continue to spike. If you have an interest in travel, tourism, finance, health care, real estate, or retail, there is a growing demand for well-paid media producers with the skills we can teach you!
Also, many of our graduates go on to start their own business and find rewarding work as professional DJs, wedding and other niche video producers, and more. There are so many possibilities that you are only limited by your imagination and drive to succeed.
