The Phlebotomy course includes classroom theory, lab, and a clinical externship, which requires attending a clinical site to complete a minimum of 75 successful venipunctures and 144 hours of clinical externship. The first several weeks of class will consist of lectures and labs in person and online, during which students will practice procedures and master phlebotomy skills prior to attending clinical training. The remaining weeks of the semester will consist of clinical hours off-site during a daytime clinical rotation at a local medical facility. Clinical hours are generally Monday through Thursday during daytime business hours (8.5 hours, 3-4 times per week). Students must pass the theory and lab (classroom) portion of the course to be eligible to proceed to the clinical portion of the course.
