Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Whether you are interested in gunsmithing as a hobby or a profession, this program will give you the training and hands-on experience you need to get started.

Become part of a historic tradition

For centuries, gun owners and enthusiasts have turned to gunsmiths for the manufacture and repair of their firearms. Over the years, gunsmithing technology has evolved, and this program trains students to design, produce, customize and repair weapons using the latest equipment and methods.

Acquire a wide range of skills

You’ll learn about the design, function, maintenance, and repair of firearms and also get training in machining and other skills that have many applications. Gaston College is one of just a few community colleges in North Carolina where you can study gunsmithing and receive college credit.

Affordable tuition and a diploma in 2 years

North Carolina residents enrolled in this program are able to take advantage of a low per-credit hour rate. Since classes in this program meet in the evening you also have the flexibility to work during the day. In five semesters, you’ll earn your diploma.

Local opportunities for skilled gunsmiths

North and South Carolina have large firearms communities and permissive gun laws, so there is a demand for credentialed gunsmiths.
