Are you passionate about personal health? Do you want to help people achieve their health and fitness goals working in a fitness studio, sports performance facility, or as a self-employed physical trainer? Gaston College’s Health and Fitness Science program prepares fitness professionals to work in the rapidly growing health and wellness industry.

Careers in Health and Fitness

This three-semester diploma program prepares students for careers in a wide variety of fields, whether you want to work one-on-one with clients or develop a health and wellness program for a large group of people. Careers in health and fitness science include:

  • Personal Training
  • Fitness Consulting
  • Health Coaching
  • Health Club Management
  • Employee Wellness Education
  • Nutrition

Students who successfully complete the program receive a diploma and will sit for an accredited certified personal trainer exam before graduation.

Gaston College also has articulation agreements with Appalachian State University, UNC Charlotte, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and Gardner Webb University.  Students who complete the diploma in Health and Fitness Science can transfer to these schools’ four-year programs.
