GC Scholar of Global Distinction (GCSGD)
The Gaston College Scholar of Global Distinction Program (GCSGD) prepares students to be culturally competent global citizens in an increasingly global job market. Students who successfully complete the requirements of the GC Scholar of Global Distinction Program receive a special designation on their Gaston College transcript, special recognition at graduation, and a certificate of completion from World View at UNC Chapel Hill. This designation helps separate the Global Distinction Scholar from other students in college applications, scholarship applications, and in a competitive job market that requires global awareness and cultural competence.
GCSGD is part of NC GLOBAL DISTINCTION. NC GLOBAL DISTINCTION is a collaboration between NC community colleges and UNC at Chapel Hill to globalize the curriculum and increase faculty and student involvement in global issues, activities and dialogue through the implementation of a global distinction program.
Requirements:
- Complete 15 credit hours in courses designated as having globally intensive content.
- Attend eight international activities and dialogue.
- Participate in 30 hours of global experience through travel abroad or domestic intercultural experience and/or service.
- Present a capstone presentation reflecting on the program experience and their global learning participation.
